Unique London wedding and party venue
Carrie

Devonshire Terrace in Devonshire Square is a completely unique London wedding venue. Built in the 1800s, this building was originally used to store imported goods such as mother of pearl, silk and ivory from Bengal. Now, in the 21st century, a stunning glass domed roof has been placed over the central courtyard to create a magnificent events space, able to hold up to 350 people. With an unusual feeling of being outside yet also feeling warm and sheltered, you’ll also be able to enjoy a framed view of The Gherkin looming over you, lit up as night draws in.

Licensed to hold civil ceremonies, Devonshire Terrace also has a cloakroom, table linen & chair covers in a variety of colours, Grade II listed architecture that makes for edgy, urban photos, and a built-in wireless microphone & sound system. A large HD screen also allows for photo montages and image display, and the venue also creates seasonal menus for you to choose from on your big day. You could have a Pimms and cold canapé reception, a three-course wedding breakfast and a selection of midnight snacks to see you through to the 3am finish line, as well as a fabulous list of wines, beers, spirits and bubbly.

The clever wireless sound system allows you to do something really quite unusual at Devonshire Terrace. A growing trend and increasingly popular option for noise limitation in city centre club venues is to have a Silent Disco. If you’re not familiar with the concept, let us explain – each of your guests (the late night revelers, in any case) are given a pair of headphones, which are rigged up to the wireless system. Then, a DJ will mix the music, and it will come through on said headphones. It’s really quite bizarre and often hilarious – everyone involved is listening to the same beats, the same sounds, but there’s not any noise in the room. When you take off your headphones, the sight of everyone dancing in sync but apparent silence is weird but wonderful, and it’s easy to forget that you don’t need to shout! The Silent Disco is certainly not compulsory here, but it does provide an entertaining alternative to the time old question – what kind of music do we play? You can have a opera singer gently warbling Puccini to your grandparents in the unbeatable acoustics and this dramatic setting, while your best man does The Worm to some cheesy 80s rap at the other end of the room. Neither of them will be any the wiser as to the contrast of their auditory delights.

A huge range of diverse and eclectic wedding packages are available here, and they start at £70 a head. That £70 will still cover a reception of drinks and canapés, a generous wedding breakfast, tea & coffee, half a bottle of wine and half a bottle of water, a glass of bubbly for toasts and a buffet of butties, rolls and finger food at midnight. We consider this to be exceptional value for money!

This accommodating, contemporary and forward-thinking venue can not only provide you with more unusual and 21st century ideas and activities, but can also organise classic touches such as a string quartet to accompany the most important few yards you’ll ever walk (in absolutely fantastic sound – the acoustics here are amazing), personalised place names and table plans, stunning mood lighting to highlight the theatre of the structure itself, and a reliable DJ who will play whatever style or genre of music you’d like. You can also hire bands and there’s plenty of space for staging and a dance floor.

Devonshire Terrace is a bustling and busy meeting point and open to the public during the day, but we thoroughly recommend an out-of-hours site visit so you can really see just how many options lay before you in this fantastic London venue. Click here to arrange this free of charge!
