Why look beyond London?

Sometimes the right venue for a London-based company isn’t in London at all. Moving an event just outside the capital can open up country houses, estates, rural hotels and purpose-built event venues with more space, outdoor areas and overnight accommodation.

This can work particularly well for company away days, leadership retreats, residential conferences, team-building events and summer parties. Getting away from the office and having everyone together in one place can become part of the event itself.

Accessibility is important though. There’s little point choosing a beautiful country venue if the journey is going to be difficult for half the team. We concentrate on venues that are within relatively easy reach of London, whether by train, road or a combination of the two.

Surrey, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Kent and Essex all offer some excellent options. For a one-day event, we’d generally favour somewhere with a straightforward journey from central London. For a residential conference or retreat, it can be worth travelling a little further if the venue offers something you simply can’t get in the city.

We also look beyond the mileage. The nearest railway station, transfer time, parking, coach access and the journey home can make a big difference to whether a venue really works.

Taking an event out of London makes most sense when the location adds something. That might be grounds for outdoor activities, space for a summer party, privacy for a management retreat or bedrooms that allow everyone to stay overnight.

It isn’t about leaving London for the sake of it. It’s about finding a venue that gives you something London can’t.
